Family Genogram

The main highlight that I have discovered during this process is that my family is very traditional and old fashioned.  Most men in the family are the "bread winners" and most women are homemakers.  My family has valuable work ethic and hold morals to a high standard. I reflect that through the questions I asked my family members, I was reassured that morals and ethics, God and family, come first and foremost.  A job and/or career must be chosen so that family will always be the focus of your life.
My aspiration to become a school counselor is so that I can help students understand these ethics and morals. By showing students the love that I have learned through my family, I feel that I can be a positive influence in kids lives.

  1. I love that there are families that still have the same ethics and morals that my family has. My family members are strong believers in the fact that God and family come first just as your family is. I hope that my ethics and morals are demonstrated by being a good role model.

  2. I thinks that our families are similar in that God and family come first. I also believe that ethics and morals are personal characteristics that are inherited from our families.

  3. Our young people need guidance from caring adults like you with strong ethics and morals. Many of our students have not had exposure to genuine relationships of love through the adults in their lives. I do feel that as counselors we have the privilege and responsibility to validate their feelings, opinions, and sometimes, even, their very "being."

  4. I love your family photo! You are blessed not only by having them in your life but the morals and values you share with them everyday.

  5. I really like traditional and old fashioned family life and that is where I am coming from. I noticed that there is a different kind of love and respect among family members in old fashioned life style.
I agree with you the importance of balancing life by giving first preference to God and then to family.

  6. It amazes me how many of us describe our family's as "old fashioned" here. It really shouldn't be a way of life that is "old" and gone my the wayside. Imagine our world if more people put God and family first - before money, fame, fortune, and success? How many of us will be on our deathbeds and wish we had spent more time at work and put more into our work? I am encouraged that so many of us hold such similar values and want for those values to guide us in guiding children.

  7. Jody, the love, values, and ethics that you discuss in your reflection will help you provide guidance for those students who come to us without those things in their lives. It is unfortunate that there are so many of them.
